Day 1:
The shuttle came to pick us up at our house at 12:30 pm. We were on the road
by 12:40!! We had to use the back up plan for traveling to Dulles. My brother
drove down to Dulles with Scott in Scott's Escape that was full of the luggage
that wouldn't fit in the van! My brother then drove Scott's car back home for
us! What a huge help that was!
We arrived at Dulles in no time at all. We were there by 1:20! The sky cap
grabbed a cart and piled all of our luggage onto it and took us around to check
into the desk. There was NO one there! What a great sign of things to come!
Once checked in we waited for the two of our group coming from Virginia.
They arrived at about 2:15 so we got them checked in and off we went to
Security. Security was a breeze with me having to have my bag rechecked for
a pair of cuticle clippers (look like scissors). No biggie and they are just doing
their job.
We got through Security and went to Concourse D where we all got seated
right away at the TGI Friday's Cafe. Belly's full we went to wait the 10
minutes or so until boarding time. Man oh man did we get lucky. The plane
was EMPTY!!! We all basically had rows to ourselves. A bunch of us
watched the movie that was being offered Mr. & Mrs. Smith. I thought it was
pretty decent but glad I hadn't paid for it. Mom & I watched Finding Nemo,
all but the last 15 minutes or so. We'll have to catch that another time.
We got into Phoenix early by about 15-20 minutes and hiked over to our new
gate. We had time to grab some snacks nearby to take on the plane with us
and we were boarding again! And we lucked out once again! Our plane had
48 people on it!!! We all stretched out and tried to take naps. A few watched
movies on laptops. It was good.
We arrived in Vancouver at 10:40 pm. We walked the eternity to Canadian
Customs and went through there with a breeze. We then went to baggage
claim where we all found most of our bags had been pulled off by Paul, one of
the guys in our group. I had given everyone some multi colored ribbon and
made everyone luggage tags so it made that job so much easier!!
We headed out to the shuttle area to catch the Courtesy Shuttle to the Hilton -
Vancouver Airport. It was a beautiful hotel and the staff couldn't have been
more accommodating. All checked in we all tried to get some sleep. Morning
brought word that most everyone was too psyched to sleep! :-)
